Born on March 24, 1922 in the village of Zavalino, Kolchuginsky District, Vladimir Region.
Father - Semenyuk Ivan Illarionovich (1888-1968). Mother - Semenyuk (Vasilyeva) Elizaveta
Petrovna (1892–1974). Wife - Semenyuk (Zolkina) Olga Vasilyevna. Daughter - Ilyicheva
Tatiana Y.
Yuri spent his childhood and youth in the Vladimir region, ten miles from the county town of
Kolchugin - in beautiful Russian lands, the charm of which he had absorbed from an early
age.
The father, the descendant of Russian Cossacks-Zaporozhtsy, worked as an agronomist. I was
at home a little short. The care of the children and the household lay on the shoulders of the
mother, whose Yura was the fifth child, and for 8 years after his birth the family had 2 more
daughters and 2 sons.
In Vladimir, where his father was transferred to work, soon, as elsewhere, it was a difficult
time for repression. They have not bypassed the Semenyuk family with many children. At
night, my father was raised out of bed and taken away in a “funnel”. Later came the news
from Ivanovo transfer prison. From there, the father was transported to Kazakhstan - there
was created a giant state farm, for the construction of which more than 3 thousand prisoners
were driven from all over the country.
