Liem Tjoe Ing was an Indonesian artist of Hokkien Chinese ancestry. He was born in Surukarta (Solo) in central Java in 1922 and died in 1999 in Jakarta. As well as being an artist he was also the compiler of the published catalogue of the painting collection of Adam Malik, Indonesia’s third vice president and former foreign minister.
Liem’s style is highly impressionist. In this regard, he seems to have been influenced by several European artists who painted in Indonesia, including Gerard Pieter Adolfs, Roland Strasser, and Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur. Like many of his contemporaries, he painted scenes set in Bali, the Hindu island
