Luigi Amato was born in Spezzano Albanese, in the province of Cosenza, on 1 January 1898. The first few years are marked by the innumerable events that follow one another in the family. He lost his mother at the age of five and only his father's deep love helped him overcome this terrible separation. The Amatos are a family of builders and Luigi grows next to his father following him on the various construction sites. Luigi Amato is a great worker. He spends his whole life for art: the happiest hours are those he spends in his studio among the characters shaped by his imagination. He does not give much credit to the critics' voice, because he does not believe in the opinions of some who usually know very little about the difficult job of painting; he does not like the great publicity he finds little suited to the seriousness of the art and the dignity of the Artist. A brief and cruel illness captures him in the best moment of his artistic genius and his working skills. Luigi Amato does not like crowds, but ironically, he died in Rome on 2 November 1961.
